Mind Full????

Yes it is... so I have been organizing....as well as clearing out...but it is a theme I have been on for most of this past year....De-cluttering is freeing......but it isn't just about physical de-cluttering it involves mental de-cluttering too....& it is an ongoing process to stay de-cluttered...

Our society throws so much at us on a daily basis that we cannot possibly process all of it...  Part of the reason why we get sick is because of what we deal with daily.....so in order to cope with destructive aspects of societal issues & relationships we indulge...in things, food, bad habits, clutter.... We focus on the superficial & not the internal....feeling failure for not meeting societal  standards....we use a room to throw things in then close the door but we still "see" it....Sooner or later we realize that this just never works...... We just put off dealing with it in a healthier way.... From what I am reading that is changing....

I will tell you what I have finally have found that works for me...it is so simple... Smaller steps over smaller blocks of time achieve success.....which I know is nothing new but part of why this works is I took the time to get here... to reach this point on my journey so that it works specifically for me.... In our fast food society taking time & being patience is becoming a lost art... I pick one major goal & continue working on other goals that are working for me...I am finding that as I go by the Moon cycles instead of the calender, my goals are being met.....New Moon -new goals (just three)... Full Moon -release what doesn't work...
Luna nurtures us if we let her....

I have started this week with one purpose before the New Moon on the first....clearing out files, pictures, old paperwork that no longer serve a purpose, hold negativity or are extra copies......This all can create mind clutter because you know it is there even if you do not see it everyday... ....I was going to start with my computer but that seemed to have the same idea only more extreme as it completely crashed so I had to reset to the factory settings....at first I was upset but then realized that it was a blessing in disguise...all my important things were backed up so it was ok.......all the stuff that was now gone was useless things that slowed it down...  So I was able to move on with the paper files & flash drives.....by the end of the day I had a trash bag full of shredded paper & pictures ready for burning in the fire pit for release on the New Moon...weather permitting...we had planned a Winter Solstice fire with some friends but had to postpone...Hopefully not this time...if we do I will wait until the Full Moon...

I am posting links to a couple of articles I think are good... I am especially fond of Zen Habits...the posts are simple, honest & to the point...I love them & highly recommend them if you are looking for something to inspire you periodically......
But the best advice is the one which encourages you to do what is good for YOUR soul......with no time limit!

The Cold Moon...

In Maine, it is living up to its name...
This is also the last Full Moon of the year...
A great time to really clean up things & let go of that which holds you back....
This is the time that I write down on paper things that I need to release...then burn it...
A good way to celebrate the Solstice & welcome the New Year in......
May the Full Moon bring you Peace...

Cupboard Re-Do

This is my bathroom cupboard after its new face lift...I wanted it to look aged...
I think I achieved that....I put the hinges on the side I did because of where it sits in the bathroom...much easier to open... (& please ignore the mess  behind it *wink* )
I painted a layer of  crackle, then white milk paint, thick in some areas.....then a wash of dark walnut stain diluted with  linseed oil ...I wouldn't do the linseed oil again as it takes a long time to dry....I still need to add the bees wax & buff it out...

This is what the original applique looked like...
I needed something more original.... So I made my own....I have a hard time finding any thing out there so it is easier to make my own... I did this with a big cupboard that is going to my daughter...

I made the flowers, leaves & berries from white polymer clay & white string...
then applied with Mod Podge...
After painting it, I give it a good dose of stain, wipe some off,
let some dibble down, sand a little  anything that will age it...

Now I am going to try making an applique for a wood ash bin from an old wood cookstove...
I am thinking Herb planter... Stay tuned...

Birch & Moss...

As I said in my previous post, we had a couple of small birch trees come down... I saw a box filled with logs & greenery on Pinterest that I liked but I used a vintage egg basket instead so you could see more of the logs...the Hubby cut one of the trees into different lengths to fill the basket...

So along with the birch logs, I added some smaller branches from the tree, some moss, pine, fir from the woods & a bird's nest found on the road & lights... I may add some cranberries to add some color...a nice decoration from Nature for the Yule season....
With some of the birch bark so I made the moon..... cut two crescents, glue together...add a touch of moss, a star & fishing string so it looks suspended...another ornie for the Folk Art tree... I love it.. I think I may make some more of these...
& some tea candle holders...thanks to the Hubby for drilling these out....
more moss around the rims...  I love moss...

add a string of dried cranberries....easy to make... just soak them overnight in lemon juice & salt , the next day string them & hang to dry in a warm place..I usually make mine the first of the year for the next holiday as they usually takes a few weeks to dry but you can speed up the process with a dehydrator... .They are very festive looking & natural..... they look great with birch....
I hope this inspires you to decorate more from Nature...I am fortunate to live where all these elements are readily available..but where ever you live use whatever natural items you have near you...it brings magic to the Yule season..& the price is right. ...
Just like buying local, you can decorate local !!

Have a great week....

DIY with Acorns & Twigs....

I have decided this year to go back to a more natural  homemade & nostalgic Christmas...out goes the artificial tree & garlands....those days are over... it also means heading into the woods not that I need an excuse for that.."wink"
I was happy to have a few days that were moderate in temps so I had a chance to get out & gather some green, pine cones, acorns & twigs....

As this is my granddaughter's first Christmas. I had to make a special one for her...
this will go on the folk art tree...

I fashioned it like the old Adirondack picture frames like mine here with a picture of my Great Grandparents... I used 4 oak twigs, moss and acorns....I printed out a  picture of Lily on fabric to give it some texture ...I am not sure I like it so I may try just a regular picture...then backed it with birch bark..

I also made a Dream-catcher ornament...I have no idea how I made the web...I just used thread & a needle & started going in & out... I added a crystal in the web & one one the bottom  along with some silver feathers... I love it... Both of these are 1  1/2 in X 2  in...
I have a few more projects going so I am planning on finishing them up over the next few days.....two small birch trees came down out back so the Hubby hauled them home... we made a few things from them so I hope to post that over the next few days...
I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season....

A Bit of Cream....

The color is a universal look.....it is earthy...it brings in light  to enlarge spaces...but over time I have found the uniqueness of the color comes with how much  range, texture & aging is  used to enhance it.... to add character...
All part of the Bohemian look....
